Stage 2: Places are similar and different incursion
Location:
Bring the expert educators from Kamay Botany Bay Environmental Education Centre to your school for an engaging, hands-on incursion! Our qualified teachers will guide students as they explore their own school grounds, sparking curiosity and discovery right where they learn every day.
Overview:
Immerse your students in the incredible biodiversity of their own school backyard! Through the geographical inquiry process, students will explore and observe the unique natural and human features of their surroundings. Using a range of fieldwork tools, they will investigate and document their discoveries in field journals, recording key observations along the way.
With a school map in hand, students will identify and label important features, deepening their understanding of their environment. To conclude the day, they will reflect on their findings, discussing the significance of their school in the broader ecosystem and exploring practical sustainability practices they can adopt to make a positive impact.
This immersive experience transforms the school into a living classroom, where students engage in real-world science, develop a deeper connection to their environment, and identify the diverse plant and animal species around them.
Tailored to suit your school’s context and student needs, this incursion is a cost-effective alternative to excursions—bringing science directly to your students without the need for bus travel.
